About Forum

- ITS Info-communications Forum Organization

    The ITS Info-communications Forum was established to promote the R&D and standardization of the communications technologies required to actualize Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). These highly intelligent, advanced communications systems will be integrated into the transportation infrastructure to enable communications between roads, vehicles and people. The Forum has 97 members (as of June 2011) and operates under the organizational structure shown below: General Assembly, Management Committee, Planning and Coordination Committee, two Expert Groups, eight Working Groups (WG), and related sub-groups (Task Groups, Sub-working Groups).

    The expert groups operate for the purpose of developing and maintaining ARIB standards and guidelines, as well as conducting technical surveys by establishing and supervising multiple group (task groups etc.) under its wings. The working groups accomplish specific objectives such as development and maintenance of ARIB standards and guidelines, technology survey, promotional and public relations activities etc. The special interest groups is responsible for information exchange, preliminary studies etc leading to the establishment of WG. By this organization, the Forum is contributing to promotion of the ITS concept both in Japan and overseas.

    Other communications activities include the management of a web site where: 1) information is posted in English for viewing by readers overseas, 2) information can be exchanged among Forum members, and 3) the results of Forum studies regarding the latest trends in communications and standardization technologies are posted.
